The fate of the BJD government will be decided later on Wednesday. The BJP appears to be smarting under the loss of an alliance partner, and it has blamed it on a Congress conspiracy. The Congress though is likely to abstain from voting.

BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad says: "The reaction of the Congress party is very muted over the break up of the BJD and BJP. Should we presume that elements in the Congress party were manipulating this kind of rupture through their minions and emissaries?"

It may sound a remote possibility, but on the ground there are speculations the Congress could be eyeing a possible post-poll tie-up with the BJD. Right now, it is playing the watching game.
