It’s Earth Day: Shoot the Planet!

Wednesday, April 22, 2009 , Posted by IM SD at 11:02 AM

Tomorrow, April 22, is Earth Day, and what better way to show appreciation of the planet’s environment than to take a few shots? With a camera, that is.

Photojojo alerted me to a contest sponsored by Earth Mosaic that
will plot photos from around the globe on a map. The photos must be taken within the 24-hour period of April 22 (in whatever time zone you happen to be in). All images must be uploaded by April 30. To submit images, head to Earth Mosaic’s home page and click the Upload button. Photos are limited to 500 kilobytes in size and must be in the JPEG format.

The Environmental Protection Agency has its own Earth Day photo project, which is being run on the Flickr photo-sharing site. Each photo should be submitted to one of three Flickr EPA photo groups: People and the environment, the beauty of nature, and wildlife. (When searching for these groups on Flickr, enter “EPA Earth Day 2009 Photo Project:” then the category.) After you’ve joined the group, simply upload the image. Photos can be of any size, and you can enter anytime between now and April 30, 2009. Selected photos will be featured on the E.P.A.’s Earth Day site. This contest doesn’t require that the images be snapped on Earth Day, so revive your summer vacation photos for some springtime glory. Read More
